       a) 45 square cm, b) 45 square cm

        

 

a) Method 1: area of each triangle is 5 x 3 ÷ 2 = 7.5 square cm,
2 triangles area = 15 square cm.
Therefore the area in orange is 6 x 10 - 15 = 45 square cm.

Method 2: the area of the 2 triangles is 1/4 of that of the rectangle, the orange part is 3/4 of the rectangle.
Therefore the area in orange is 60 x 3/4 = 45 square cm.

b) The area in orange is the same as that in Figure a.
