7th Grade Challenging Math

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

7-72)   Answer

         6 rabbits and 4 chickens.

Solution:
First assume Matt has only chickens and no rabbits. 10 chickens would have 20 feet. However, since there are 32 feet in all, there are 12 extra feet (32 - 20 = 12). Each rabbit has 2 extra feet compared with a chicken. Therefore, there has to be 6 (12 divided by 2) rabbits. So Matt has 6 rabbits and 4 chickens.
